Privacy Statement

The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (“the PDPA”) which regulates the processing of personal data in commercial transactions, applies to Cancer Research Malaysia (hereinafter referred to as “our”, “us” or “we”). For the purpose of this Privacy Statement, the terms “personal data” and “processing” shall have the meaning prescribed in the PDPA.
  1. This Privacy Statement serves to inform you that your personal data is being processed by or on behalf of Cancer Research Malaysia.

  2. The personal data processed by us may include your name, national identity card no. (NRIC No.), contact number, address and email address. It may also include your medical history, medical information, medical diagnosis of cancer and the clinical characteristics of your breast cancer diagnosis. As we collect your personal information, we rely on your representations and warranties that you have procured the necessary written consent, authorisation, release or waiver and/or permission for our collection, use and processing of your personal information (including sensitive personal data).

  3. We may collect personal information when you access the website and/or use our services. We may, from time to time, request to collect personal information which may be relevant for us to operate and provide services to you. We may also collect service-related, diagnostic and performance information such as log files, website performance logs and reports to help us improve the services we provide. We may collect device-specific information such as hardware, operating system details, browser information, IP address, and mobile network information.

  4. We may process your personal data, including any additional information you may subsequently provide, for the following purposes (“Purposes”):
    • To enable the discharge of the duties and obligations related to our functions or activities under the legislation administered by Cancer Research Malaysia and only when it is necessary for or directly related to such purposes
    • To enable the discharge of our contractual obligations
    • To enable the resolution of a concern or complaint
    • To create directories or databases whether for publication or not
    • To provide ongoing information about events and programs, training, our products and services to people that we believe are interested in such events, programs, training, products and services
    • To provide services
    • To research, develop, and improve our events, programs, products, and services
    • To respond to all your queries and emails; and for any other purpose that is incidental or ancillary or in furtherance to the above purposes
    • To ascertain your identity to prevent fake account creation
    • To enable any investigation if there are issues related to ethics, fraud or misconduct
    • To comply with legal and/or regulatory requirements connected with providing you with Services
    • For any reporting or record-keeping and management requirements
    • For auditing and risk management

  5. Your personal data may be collected from various sources, including information you have provided us, information from third parties, and information in the public domain.

  6. Your personal data may be disclosed to:
    • Our employees
    • Healthcare professionals and service providers, agents, contractors, partners, third-party service providers who provide various services or facilities to us
    • Other parties authorised or consented by you
    • Regulatory, enforcement and governmental authorities as permitted or any person as required by law or to comply with the directives of the authorities or any order of court or legal process;
    • Any other person to whom we have a duty of disclosure
    • Our legal, financial and professional advisors
    • Research organisations, publishers of healthcare, medical, telemedicine and telecare journals, academic institutions

  7. At present, our activities and operations are local in nature and we do not need to transfer any personal data to any third parties outside of Malaysia.

  8. We ensure all personal information will be safely and securely stored to protect it from loss, misuse, modification, unauthorised or accidental access, alteration or destruction.

  9. We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil our obligations in providing our services and we take all reasonable steps to ensure that all personal information is destroyed or permanently deleted if no longer required.

  10. You have the right to request access and correction of your personal information. You are responsible for notifying us of any changes to your personal information in the event you believe that the personal information we have about you is inaccurate, incorrect, incomplete, misleading or not up-to-date so that we can make the changes for you.

  11. You have the right to contact us to limit or withdraw your consent to our continued use, disclosure, retention, and processing of some or all of your personal information. Our legal rights and remedies in such an event are reserved.

  12. You have the right to opt out of receiving marketing, advertising or promotional communications from us on any new products or services we offer.

  13. All of our rights and obligations under our policy are freely assignable by us to any of our affiliates, in connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, or by operation of law or otherwise, and we may transfer your information to any of our affiliates, successor entities, or the new owner. In the event of any such assignment or transfer, the affiliate, successor entity or new owner as the case may be, will have all the rights and be subject to all of the obligations of this Privacy Policy and the PDPA including, without limitation, the right to modify or replace this Privacy Policy.

  14. We may, from time to time, link to third-party websites or services. These websites may collect information from you which are subject to their own privacy policies and data protection notices. Your access of such services is at your own risk and we do not accept liability or any responsibility for your use or access.

  15. We may amend or update our policy and update the ‘Last modified’ date on this policy. You are advised to periodically review this policy to stay informed of updates.
